Top 10 Luxury Hotels in Ubud Bali

There are so many luxury hotels in Ubud Bali, each offering their own beauty and facilities. Nevertheless, I would rather differentiate all the hotels from the point of view of the distance from the city center or being secluded. Check out my curated list of Ubud luxury resorts for honeymoon, birthday, and anniversary celebration.

Upper Side of Ubud Bali

Capella Ubud

Part of the Capella chain, this Ubud hotel delivers the semi-glamping concept in Ubud. The unique experience is brought to you by the unique interior details designed by Bill Bensley. You can see the well thought details like the fabric wallpaper, rose gold stand alone bath, and the ornamental details on the furnitures. You can enjoy the uniquely curated excursion or enjoying the spa amidst the unspoiled lush rainforest. One thing that I appreciate is that all Capella hotels have their own "Capella Curates" which is a series of unique experiences. In Capella Ubud, you can expect to find The Art of Jamu, Melukat ritual, bootcamp session, learning bali dance or relaxing through confined to quarters where you can find solace with series of relaxing activities.

The Kayon Resort

One of the locally owned resorts in Ubud, The Kayon Resort has been a favourite for local and tourist alike. This Ubud hotel is widely known because of its restaurant with a waterfall view. The Kayon Resort is located on the upper side of Ubud towards the famous Tegalalang Rice Terrace. There are 2 Kayon Resorts in Ubud, the other one is the Kayon Jungle Resort, so don't get it mixed up.

Como Shambala Estate Ubud Bali

Como Shambala Estate has garnered a strong following by boldly being the health and peace sanctuary. The resort is also located on the upper side of Ubud, perfect for those who seek tranquility. All guests can use their hydrotherapy pool, 25m swimming pool, sauna room, and fitness centre. They also offer the  wellness treatment menu where guests can have various treatments like massage, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, ayurveda therapy, private yoga classes, and many more. The downside is, you can only have the private pool in the two bedroom villa and above. During the period of social distancing, Como Shambala will reopen on December 1st 2020.

WHAT TO WEAR IN UBUD

Viceroy

Viceroy Bali was awarded #1 Resort in the World by Condé Nast Traveler in their Readers' Choice Awards 2018 and 2019 Trip Advisor's Traveler's Choice 25 Top Hotels in Asia. It is part of the Small Luxury Hotels Of the World Group (SLH). Family owned and operated, the hotel is conveniently situated 5 minutes from the centre of Ubud and features 30 luxuriously appointed private pool villas facing the Petanu River. All suites have their own pool, so I think it's one of the resort with best value for money. Reserve Viceroy Hotel through their direct hotel page for more add ons benefit.

Hoshinoya Bali

Part of the Hoshinoya Japanese hotel chain, Hoshinoya Bali brings the zen and minimalist element to their resort. Designed by renowned Japanese architect, Azuma, it captures intrinsic spatial qualities all along the area. There are three types of villas available and every villa is connected through the large swimming pool. The location is quite far from the Ubud City center about 20 minutes, perfect for those who wants solitude and digital detox. A minus point of this resort is that it only has one restaurant so it doesn't have many food choices available. During the period of social distancing, Hoshinoya Bali will reopen on January 1st 2021.

Ubud Hotels in City Center Area

Warwick Ibah

Warwick Ibah is part of the Warwick hotel chain and it is the first one in Indonesia. With 18 individual suites, you can choose its spacious treetops suites or go with the 2 bedrooms villa. It is one of the hotels that is located closest to Ubud City Center. It is also located just beside the famous rice field (Campuhan Ridge Walk). The plus point is you can explore a lot of restaurants in Ubud and tourist places nearby. The minus part is that since it is a stand alone hotel chain, you might not be getting as much loyalty hotel point as compared to other chain like the Mariott or Accor.

Amandari

Always focusing on luxury experience in a poise elegant way, Amanda is the place to go for exclusivity. With only 30 suites and one villa available, Amandari is bringing the uttermost care and privacy to its guests. Amandari may look a bit more "plain looking" compared to the other newly made luxury hotels like Mandapa and sort of low-key if you look at the photos, but in real life it was most probably the most breathtaking among all luxury hotels in ubud bali. You have to see how spacious their room are and each infinity pool each room has. I feel like it is the aura that makes Amandari very peaceful, tranquil, and rejuvenating for the soul and nowadays it is truly the kind of luxury we are searching for.

Four Seasons Ubud Resort at Sayan

Minutes away from the busy Ubud Market is Four Seasons Resort at Sayan. This hotel was built in 1998 and get renovated in 2012 and have a total of 18 suites and 42 stand alone villas. I must say that this hotel has one of the grandest architecture in Ubud. On the other hand, it feels sort of like "corporate-y" because it is very modern compared to the rest of the hotels listed here. I believe different people has different preferences for hotel, so I might as well put that out. If you are not spending a night in Four Seasons Ubud, I can assure you that their restaurant and bar Jati Bar Four Seasons Ubud is perfect for an evening wind down session.

Tanah Gajah

Previously known as the Chedi Club, Tanah Gajah is actually a locally owned estate which was rented to the Chedi GHM Hotel Group. This entire hotel compound is huge, there are huge emerald coloured swimming pool, ponds with swans, rice paddies and many many artefacts and artworks which are private collection of the owner. The hotel is located nearby the Goa Gajah or the Elephant Cave, one of the sites in Ubud Area known as a temple built in the 9th Century. It is located about 5 km before the Ubud Main City Centre (if you are driving from the Seminyak area).

Ritz Carlton Mandapa Reserve

This is one of the properties under the Mariott Chain, so if you are one of the Mariott Bonvoy member, be sure to check this one out. This particular resort was opened at the end of 2015, so it's one of the newer luxury hotels in ubud bali. It has a total of 35 suites and 25 pool villas. The location is on Kedewatan road pretty near to the city center, about 10 minutes by car. The traditional yet contemporary Balinese interiors by Jeffrey Wilkes of renowned Asia-based DESIGNWILKES have created a true luxury experience designed to allure the world’s most discerning travelers. Mandapa is also home to four restaurants & lounges offering an array of authentic Indonesian cuisine, Mediterranean dining, and tailored health-conscious menus for wellness and detox programs incorporating the freshest local ingredients. Book Ritz Carlton Mandapa Reserve here.
