An Overview of Makassar

It was my first trip to the Celebes, a really short trip but i did have fun! It was a company trip to visit our store in Makassar, South Celebes, as well as an outing for our store team. A trip to Makassar took about three hours from Jakarta. We alighted at Sultan Hasanudin airport. Nice building and clean inside i must say, the pillar reminds me of the Johor bus station though.

Where to stay in Makassar

We stayed at Aston hotel (#10 Sultan Hasanudin Road) The room is nice, clean, has fast checkin, and the interior furniture is well maintained with sufficient working desk. It has marble finishing for floor and bathroom walls, the room is 3/4 carpeted . I like the indoor pool with city view, they have sauna as well. Too bad, their buffet breakfast is very decent, i expected Makassar local food but there was none.

What to eat in Makassar

Makassar or Sulawesi is a heaven for seafood! I ate seafood literary every day hahah. So here's some places to get nice seafood.
1.  Lae Lae Seafood (8 Datu Museng road +62 0411 334326) opens till late
2. Rumah makan Bahari (37 Yosef Latumahina road) has zircon inside, closes at 10pm.
3. Seafood Apong (95 Pangeran Diponegoro road)

I've been craving for this dessert and i would be so sad if i didn't had a chance to try "es pisang ijo" in its hometown. We headed to Rumah Makan Bravo (154 Andalas road) late at night to try the pisang ijo and "jalangkote" as we were too full from our seafood dinner. The place itself is a legendary place for traditional makassar food since 1986.

Other place i tried for lunch is Rumah Makan Nyoto (146 Somba Opu Road) for spicy balado, noodle, and rendang. If you're looking for Coto, my local friends recommended Coto nusantara (#35 Sam Ratulangi road) or Coto Ranggong (#13 Ranggong road)

Aside from being at work, we spent a day at Samalona IslandFor souvenirs, we headed to Toko Souvenir Toraja at #1 WR Supratman. Bought the super nice Toraja Kalosi coffee, peanuts, some biscuits back home. Makassar is also famous for its minyak tawon (wasps oil) and minyak kayu putih (cajuputi oil)
