Bhutan Travel Destination Ideas

Travel has been one of the luxury we've been craving for. Some borders are slowly begin to reopen and what we know is that this time around planning for a trip should be done far beyond the travel date. One of the country I've been wanting to visit for a long time is the Kingdom of Bhutan. Together with MyBhutan, I have gathered some travel ideas that might interest you and perhaps make you consider Bhutan as your next travel destination.

Why Bhutan Should Be on Your Next Destination List

Bhutan is focusing on being a wellbeing destination. This will be both physical and spiritual wellbeing. What you can experience varies from herbal medicine treatments, natural hot springs, therapeutic traditional hot stone baths, yoga, meditation and spiritual retreats. The country is known as the #1 destination in the world for 2020 (as rated by lonely planet) and is the only carbon negative country in the world. This last Himalayan Kingdom is not only full of magical buildings and endeavour but also take the Gross National Happiness as the leading government policy driver.

Things to Do in Bhutan

There are so many places to visit in Bhutan, but of course I will listed down some art and nature sites that I find interesting. See below of the curated highlights that you should consider while visiting Bhutan.

Tiger's Nest
No trip to Bhutan is complete without visiting this iconic landmark up in the sky. Located in Paro, this scenic building is located at 900 metres above the floor of Paro Valley. The legend says that the first person to recognise this Taktsang Lhakhang, Guru Rinpoche arrived on the back of a flying Tigress. He then continued his meditation here and it has been a pilgrimage place ever since. Visitors can visit this place by riding a horse halfway up the mountain then continuing the rest of the journey on foot.

VAST
Established in 1998, VAST is a creative studio where young artists develop contemporary and traditional art styles. Short for The Voluntary Artists Studio Thimpu, it is also known for promoting community happiness through art camps and outreach projects across the country. It's definitely something new and interesting to discover in the city of Thimpu for those of you who love to explore art and exhibitions.

Jungshi Handmade Paper Company
Papermaking is one of Bhutan's long preserved traditional arts. Visitors can expect to see the traditional paper making process which turns the paper pulp into gorgeous homewares, arts, and religious uses. You can also being home this one of a kind paper artwork from this factory.

Royal Textile Academy
Fashion is always something that catch my eyes and learning about the fashion and textile from another culture is definitely intriguing.  Visitors can expect to find the country's vibrant and varied hand weaving and traditional textiles in the Royal Textile Academy in Thimpu. You can also find a weaving center, where the weavers delicately produce the magnificent weaving. If you keen, you can also bring some of the textiles back home.

Travel Itinerary

Of course pictures can't really justify how beautiful Bhutan truly is. You really got to experience the wonder itself. Every visit to Bhutan should go through an approved tour operator. One of the trusted tour operators in Bhutan is MyBhutan which is also approved by The Tourism Council of Bhutan and His Majesty. The 7 days Itinerary in Bhutan would be enough to cover the various sites mentioned above. The full Manifestation of Our Arts 7 days itinerary could be found on their site. The trip comprises of visiting all the places mentioned above and actually so many more points, like the famous Punakha Dzong, Buddha Dordenma Statue, Chimi Lhakhang, and also trying traditional archery. If you have further questions regarding any visit to Bhutan, don't hesitate to contact them via email. So what do you think of Bhutan?

  7. WOW! Bhutan looks like such a stunning place. I would love to travel their and learn more about spirituality and mindfulness. I really wish I could travel, but it seems the world will keep the US in time out for quite some time because of how poorly we've dealt with coronavirus haha!

  16. Hello dear!

First of all congrats on this collaboration, now and more than ever I like to catch on travel content since it is the thing I miss the most!

I don't know a lot about Bhutan to be honest, so it was really pleasant to know more about some cultural facts! The views look terrific and the dishes are so pleasant to see! Wouldn't mind to have some of that right now!
