Kyoto Samurai and Ninja Museum Experience
One of the unique experience in Kyoto, Samurai and Ninja Museum can be your off the beaten path list when visiting Japan. Located in the Teramachi Shopping Street area, the Samurai and Ninja Museum Kyoto gives you a glimpse of history and experience of the long standing history of Samurai and Ninja in Japan. Unlike the traditional museum, here the guides are interactive and you can also try to use the shuriken, one of the weapon used by the ninja. You can book the ticket online beforehand and use the code "stylefrontier" for discount upon checkout.
Learning about the history of the Samurai
The fully guided tour starts with a showcase of the history of Japanese feudal system and samurai empire that starts from to period. They explain the history behind the warriors, their tactics, and the role they played in Japanese history. You will learn that actually there are samurai clans who once ruled certain areas of Japan. This history is a very interesting way to learn about the development of the current modern Japan.
They also showcase the samurai armor and real katana swords. You'll learn about the different types of armor and how they were used in battle. In Japan, swordmanship is not just about swinging a sword, but understanding the historical significance and technique behind the katana, which is considered a work of art.
Ninja Experience
The guide will show you several weapons that you can try if you were a ninja. You will have time to learn stealth technique and practice shuriken throwing and try to aim at the target. They also teach you about the secretive, tactical side of being a ninja, such as using disguise and using your surroundings to hide or escape. At certain times, they may have ninja shows or performances where actors reenact ninja techniques, sword fighting, or even mock battles. It’s entertaining and educational, and you’ll get to see how agile and stealthy these warriors had to be. It was fun and I quite enjoyed it! Overall it is a lovely experience to learn more about Japanese culture in a fun way. It’s a great way to dive into the history of both samurai and ninjas, and the interactive elements make it fun for people of all ages.
