Tulamben Adventure
Tulamben Bali
Tulamben is an area located in Karangasem Regency at the North East Side of Bali. It has the famous USS Liberty wreck which attracts diver to the area. The site is located on the coast and directly facing the Lombok Strait. It was our first time to visit it and I was quite impressed as it shows a different side of Bali that is not touristy. Read more below to see what we experienced during our stay.
Roadtrip
It took us about three hours drive from the Bali Ngurah Rai airport and distance is around 102 km. the road towards the area is quite narrow and windy, so you got to be extra careful. It is best to rent a car with your friends and family because of the distance and it is quite hard to find hailing ride in the area. The view is quite amazing with green pastures and landscape and you can also see Mount Agung in the distance. There are small shops and restaurant along the way but there isn't much. During our way back to the city centre, we dropped by a small restaurant called Merta Sari to try their famous balinese satay.
Hotel in Tulamben
We stayed at Tauch Terminal Resort Tulamben and Spa Bali during the trip. This beach front resort houses rooms located in two levels. It has two pools and a restaurant on the site. Tulamben is a quite area and there are not many restaurants open and available especially during the pandemic and the year end season. Finding a hotel with a good restaurant is such a big relieve.
Our rooms are located in the second floor and it has balcony to relax. The room has air conditioner and warm water as well. It has sofa and tables for lounging. I spent the day inside reading this book called The Consolations of Physics during a rainy day. When the sun is out, it is great to take a plunge in the pool or stroll on the beach which is located at the resort's doorstep. It is a rainy season in Bali during year end, so the sea waves could be hitting hard. Overall I love how serene the location is, great for year end reflection and just relaxing without the hustle bustle you usually found in Kuta or Seminyak.

Activities in Tulamben
Diving in Tulamben is so attractive because it houses famous USS Liberty shipwreck which you can view in around five metres depth and its deepest part of the ship lies around 30 metres depth. The Liberty ship was hit by a Japanese torpedo in the 1942 and the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963 brought the vessel nearer to the beach. It is best to visit the dive site in the early morning as it will get more crowded during the noon. Our recommendation of a dive center in Tulamben is Let's Dive Tulamben. They have various dive trips in Bali and beyond. My friends did the dive but I didn't. Nevertheless, I hope to dive one day too! If you are not diving, like me, Tulamben is also famous for its Black Sand Beach resulted by the lava ashes of Mount Agung. The pebbled beach is so serene and is good for an evening walk, even though the rocks can be quite difficult to step on barefoot.
