Ho Chi Minh Travel Guide
Ho Chi Minh was our first stop during our Vietnam trip. We took a total nine days to explore the three cities- Ho Chi Minh, Da Nang, and Hanoi. Greeted by the mix of the old and the new, the city is a combination of the colonial buildings and the skyscrapers. The city is definitely looking much more tidier than I expected, especially in District 1. This Ho Chi Minh travel guide will give you a glimpse of our trip, from attractions to food. What To Do in Ho Chi Minh
Architecture and landmarks in Saigon
I'm a huge fan of art and history. There's nothing more liberating than strolling around the city to find architecture and admiring them. Notable architecture in Ho Chi Minh are the Saigon Central Post Office and the Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon. Both are located nearby each other, so you can visit them in one go. The orange coloured church building is visible from afar, so you will not miss it. I must say that the Saigon Post Office is one of the grandest post office in South East Asia. It was built in the french Colonial Era in 1886 designed by Alfred Foulhoux. Even better, you can also send a postcard to your loved ones here! Further down is the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House where theatre play and concert often takes place.Ho Chi Minh War Remnant Museum
No visit to a country is complete without learning about its history. The Ho Chi Minh War Remnant Museum houses the relics and story of the country's dark period. The building is divided into several rooms. One of the most memorable space is the room where Agent Orange is displayed. Even though it happened during the 1960s, but the scar of war still can be felt. Children whose parents were affected by these chemicals still suffer from different kind of diseases. Seeing their pictures really broke my heart. Aside from the above mentioned room, there are other rooms where you can see the real weapon, bits and pieces of uniforms, and other war related items.Where To Eat in Ho Chi Minh
There are so many Vietnam food on my list and I didn't even know where to begin. We tried to separate the food based on the city, so as not to repeat it. One of the famous food you should try is the Thanh Xuân - Hủ Tiếu Cua Mỹ Tho and Bun Mam found at the Lunch Lady Saigon. Both of them are street food and I bet you. there's nothing more interesting that sit on the sidewalk, tasting the real Vietnamese food. We didn't really go to malls or eat at a restaurant, perhaps once. The rest are full of finding the nearest local food near our place. Check this post for a complete Vietnamese Food Guide you should try!Ho Chi Minh Shopping
Ben Tanh Market is one of the famous markets in Ho Chi Minh. You can visit it to find coffee, fashion goods, food, and fresh produce. The market is located at district one. Upon entering you will lots and lots of lanes packed with kiosks. Finding the coffee to bring home isn't hard, sometimes you just have to follow your nose. Aside from the traditional market, Ho Chi Minh also have several local brands that you might check out such as Nau Nau, a fragrance company and Tim Tay, a sustainable clothing brand for man and woman.
Book your hotel for an upcoming trip to Ho Chi Minh.
