Things to Do in Kuala Lumpur
There are many things to do in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's capital city. If you only have several days to explore the city, you might want to check out this travel guide to optimise your trip. Even though this is not a good time to travel yet and Malaysia is under nationwide movement control until March 30, but I hope you can bookmark this page until the situation allows us to travel again. For the mean time, perhaps we can look at different destinations digitally to remind us that it's a big world out there and we are all in this together! Also like I've mentioned in the previous post, I would love to do a link exchange or an instastory shoutout exchange, so DM me on my Instagram!Well, other than food, Kuala Lumpur (official name: Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) is also rich in culture and diversity. If shopping is your thing, I can assure you can find numerous local and international brands. So let's go through the list shall we?
Perdana Botanical Garden
One of my favourite outdoor park in the city, Perdana Botanical Garden comprises 91,6 hectare of land filled with various herb garden, conservation, lake, and also Kuala Lumpur Bird Park. It is a very nice area to take a stroll or for a morning/afternoon run. You can find the Hibiscus Garden where they have a collection of various hibiscus species as Malaysia's national flower. In the middle of the park, there's the Laman Perdana, a yellow futuristic architecture where they usually host an event of where people can gather to sit. Facing the Laman Perdana is the lake that runs through half of the park.National Museum of Malaysia
Learn about the history, geography, art, and culture of Malaysia in this museum. Located just in front of the Perdana Botanical Garden, the museum is easily accessible by stopping at the Muzium Negara MRT station. The museum opens daily from nine to six in the afternoon. On the first floor, you can find a traditional Malacca Baba House as well as the history of Malaysian Peninsula, like the kingdom of Buddhist and Hindu which once rule the area. It is then continued with the display of the importance of the Islamic Sultanate of Malacca. On the second floor, there are displays of colonialization period as well as different kind of weapons and musical instruments to display the traditional way of life.Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery
One of the newer museum and gallery, Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery
is located at the office of the National Bank itself. Here you can learn a lot about Malaysia's economy and finance sector. On the ground floor, there's the interactive children museum with the iconic money tunnel. Take one floor up to learn more about the graphic data and visualisation of Malaysia trade and economy sector. On the third level, you can find more of the historical trade and the display of various currency used in Malaysia since the first trade occurs. On the other hand, you can visit the art collection owned by the Bank Negara on the fourth floor. There are local and international artist's work on display. It's an all in one excursion for all ages. Update from their website, the museum is temporarily closed for public since March 9 until further notice for cleaning.
Petronas Tower
The must visit landmark is none other than the Petronas Tower. It is also located nearby the Aquaria KLCC, so you can visit both at the same day. Petronas Tower is a twin skyscrapers that is actually an office and headquarter for the Petronas Oil Company. As one of the top things to do in Kuala Lumpur, Petronas Tower is always filled with local and international visitors alike. The Tower is opens daily except Monday and Public Holiday from 9am to 9pm. To avoid the crowd, you can visit the landmark in the morning. On the other hand, if you would like to see the Petronas Tower in its glory, you can also visit it at night as there's the KLCC Fountain Light Show at 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm daily.Chinatown Kuala Lumpur
The Kuala Lumpur Chinatown is where you can find good chinese food, snacks, and stroll around the heritage area. Actually it . One of my favourite restaurant is Kim Lian Kee which established in 1927. They serve various Malaysian chinese food originated from Fujian, China or as the locals called Hokkien. We ordered the fried kway teow, Hokkien Mee (Hokkien noodle), stir fried vegetables, and of course ice coffee! Nearby the restaurant, there is a beancurd stall that is quite famous, perfect for a hot day. If you have more time, you can also explore the Central Market nearby to get souvenirs to be brought back home.
