how to truly live

How to Truly Live - Life in the Era of Uncertainty.

A lot of people say that this is a very uncertain time. Well, isn't life is always uncertain? You don't really know what will happen in the next minute or next hour or the next day. For me life is always uncertain, it's just this situation amplifies the entire thing. Read more below about how I feel and my way of thoughts, in which I hope will help everyone feel better and think clearer in this period of time.

Age is just a number

Celebrating birthday in this era is not the same as last year or the years before. For the past five years, I've always been travelling during my birthday, alone or with friends. I always feel birthday is a week of reflection. I've always toss my work aside and truly enjoy the birthday week on a foreign land. At the same time, now I feel like age is just a number. It's truly more about what we have experienced (travelling is one of them) in life and what we have shared that truly matters. You're never too old to learn or too young to explore the world.

Don't stress about things you can't control

A lot of people I know suffer from anxiety. It can be because they think life has changed so much or just because they can't really socialise. They think that this is a very uncertain time. Well, isn't life is always uncertain? You don't really know what will happen in the next minute or next hour or the next day. For me life is always uncertain, it's just this situation amplifies the entire thing

I always believe we can only control things to a certain extent. There's no value in stressing about things that we can't control. Things that we can control includes our behaviour towards the situation, our reaction, being a responsible citizen, and helping others in need. Other things like washing hands, eating good healthy food, have enough exercise, and caring about our own mental health are also things that we can control.

If you can do anything in this world? what would it be?

Sometimes things have to go real bad, until it goes better. We are being challenged to rise as a collective consciousness. We are being challenged to think about how we lived and how we want to live moving forward. It's really time to think about what we really want to do in life. If you can do absolutely anything, will you still be working on your job? Will you still be in the city where you reside? Will you be happy with the way you consume or shop? We always say that we don't have time to think. Now you have all the time in the world. What else are you waiting for?

Who would you be aside from the work you do? There are so many aspects in our live that probably a bit forgotten when we live our life at 200km per hour. This is the time to look at the other aspects of life, like health, romance, relationship, friendship, finance, experience, character development, and what we want to share with others. Perhaps you've always wanted to start a new business but never have time to think about it. Well, now it's the time. You don't have to be afraid about it. As long you have a good intention and strategy, believe that the universe will support you.

Be grateful so you can receive more

We need to remind ourselves that even in this time, there are always things to be grateful for. One of the things is my loving friends and family. Even during my quarantined birthday I felt so loved because everyone sent greetings, well wishes, called me, and even sent me food and gifts! With all of that loving presence, I feel very blessed and loved and again, ready to embark on a new journey even in this uncertain time. When you feel anxious, try to talk to people around you, be it your family, close friends, or boyfriend/girlfriend.  Talking to the people we love and knowing that you are loved makes you less anxious and worry.

Keeping a gratitude journal will also make you happier because if you are happy about the simple things, you will feel more grounded. If you are healthy, pain free, able to eat healthy food, still able to connect with your friends and family, those things are a great joy.

Acceptance Not Resistance

Other things to note to reduce anxiety is really just to accept things as it is. There's no point in resisting or trying to deny the fact that we are living in a different situation now. Stress comes from resistance, but when you have learnt to accept things as it is, you will feel so much clearer and more relax. You have to give yourself time and patience to feel all the things and figure things out. There's no doubt that being cautious and vigilant is as important as it is.

Help others if you can

Now that you have feel better and things are slowly getting in shape. Then, it's time to extend your help to others in need. Helping others make us feel happy too. It doesn't have to be grand things. It can be as simple as asking how they are doing, sharing your favourite local brands in social media, shoutout to instagram or blogger friends, etc. My number one rule is that if you want to help someone, just do it! Don't think too much. There's never a help or a donation that is too little. Don't think about what the receiver or other people may think of you, that's their karma. You just have to do it with a good intention.

So, now i'm asking you again. If now you can do whatever thing that you want to do, what would it be? Why you haven't done that? Is there anything bothering you? It's time to really think about what we want to do and why we are here in this lifetime.

  1. Beautiful post and loved the way you expressed yourself through these words and with these nice pictures, very natural but with something that it is important to say in a society that puts so much pressure about numbers.

As you well said we all experience this pressure, but everyone should embrace life under specific circunstances, we are here to learn along the way and to become the better version of ourselves, with no comparison :)

All the best and wish you had a lovely celebration despite the current situation

  2. I totally agree with these points! I mean, age is something we live with. We might as well embrace it. Oooohoo I like the question - thinking about what we want out of life will take us places. Don't just go with the flow. We're always being challenged in some way. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  7. Such a great dress on you and some very wise words too! I think it's easy to be sacred but good to focus on helping each other in this pandemic - even if it's just helping our friends and family and being there to support them when they have worries.

Hope that you are having a nice weekend :)

  9. I am currently thinking a lot about what I want to be in this world, and have decided that I want to be as close to an explorer as possible. I want to go on fun adventures and write about it - but I guess I need to wait until quarantine ends to do so.

  15. Sorry your Birthday is happening during quarantine. But yes being home does give us time to meditate. And focus. If I could do anything I would live in Paris and travel all about Europe and also volunteer for a human rights organization one day a week.

  17. I definitely struggle with anxiety and stress way too much! But like you said, it's not worth it to stress about certain things, especially if you can't do anything about it. Much better to use that time thinking and doing positive things!

  30. Being grateful so that you can receive more - a line.
Being grateful is something a lot of us take for granted and we fail to realise what we do have rather than what we don't.
Love posts that are so intentional like this one.
    Thanks.

  35. This is a very mature and wise post. For me, the Corona period is not a difficult time. I am already retired, so I no longer have any job problems. Being in nature has always made me happy, and I can be in nature very often these days. Therefore, I currently find my life very happy. And it's true: age is just a number!
