5 sustainable fashion and lifestyle brands to discover

5 sustainable fashion and lifestyle brands to discover right now

Sustainable fashion and lifestyle brands has always been one of the things that intrigued me. I'm so glad to know that more and more brands in different parts of the world are creating great items with better resources, equality to human rights, and also giving back to the environment by neutralising carbon footprint. Check out some of my favourite brands below and let me know what do you think.

1. Solai - United Kingdom

Solai is a sustainable fashion brand that works with a mission to create climate-beneficial clothing. They believe that sustainability is not enough and therefore need to take steps towards actively reversing the effects of Climate Change. They are taking it into action by working with Regenerative Farmers to grow clothing fibres which this goes beyond mere Organic farming. The farmers are also implementing specific practices (composting, crop rotation, cover crops, no-till, no-pesticides) to increase soil fertility, revive biodiversity, save significant amounts of water and ultimately, capture & store huge amounts of carbon in the ground. This has proven to be one of the most effective solutions to combating Climate Change and restoring the natural balance of our atmosphere.

If the fabrics aren't second-hand and upcycled, they are hand-woven by a cluster of wonderful artisans in Erode. With immense skill & ancient knowledge, they employ the traditional technique of weaving with a hand-loom, which uses next to no energy. This craft is sadly being increasingly lost to mechanisation, so it's super important to support this fabric-making technique to ensure the tradition endures. All of the packaging is 100% home compostable & they work with carbon neutral couriers. Furthermore, they work with reGAIN app - a company that collects and recycles textile waste. It enables Solai to offer customers a certain amount of discount if they recycle their old clothing with reGAIN to ensure they don't end up in landfill.

2. Lacess - Hong Kong

Lacess represents a community tied together - with the common vision to fight against social injustice and the rapid deterioration of the environment. This Hong Kong based sustainable fashion company is appalled by the waste produced by the fashion industry, Lacess make use of leather trimmings & plastic waste to create sustainable sneakers - wardrobe staples that goes with anything and could take you anywhere. Their signature creation is called Avril, that comes in white base colour with different accent shade (white, pink, navy, and black). Every pair of sneakers is made of 50% upcylced leather trimmings, 20% post consumer recycled plastics, and the rest are rubber, cork, tercel, and linen. For every pair sold, a portion of the proceeds is donated to Compassion First, a not-for-profit organization that works tirelessly to help victims of human-trafficking. It's like doing so many good things and looking good at the same time! I couldn't be more excited!

3. Luuna Naturals

Luuna Naturals was born out of the founder's concern as she couldn't find a period care brand that truly empowered women and girls in Asia. Oliva Cotes-James then produced organic cotton range and period cups that are sustainable and wellness focused. The products are checmical free, ethically sourced, FDA approved, and SGC tested. If you are not familiar with using period cup yet, I would highly recommend their natural based cotton range that includes pads, liners, and tampons that are made of organic cotton certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard. I believe it's one of the ways to make our monthly period more fun and of course, healthier!

4. Sceona - Singapore

Who is a fan of jewellery? I'm definitely one of them! However, do you know that your jewelry can be harming to the environment, especially when it involves mining? Sceona is a sustainable jewelry brand based in Singapore that gives a second life to recycled gold. The 18k solid gold is also adorned with lab grown VVS diamonds that doesn't go through mining process. Furthermore, their impact does not end with the product. It also includes sustainable packaging, as well as offsetting their carbon emissions. I believe this jewelry will gives you an extra oomph of beauty inside out! They also have just launched a fantastic jewelry buying guide make sure to check it out.

5. Ada Perlu - France

Nothing screams summer better than a easy breezy beautiful clothes that reminds you of the vacation. Since 2015, the awareness towards sustainable fashion has became very clear to develop Ada Perlu (which means “a need” in Bahasa Indonesia) with a sustainable and ethical approach. Working with the locals and respecting the good social conditions are built in order to sublimate amazing Indonesian Batik fabric. Today, the brand designs products with attractive and colorful qualities sold in their traditional Balinese gift boxes. Each piece is designed in France and made by hand in Bali. Overall, the brand supports slow fashion and having plastic free packaging as their commitment towards being an eco-friendly fashion brand.

So which one is your favourite brand so far? Any new brands I should discover? Let me know in the comment section below.

  1. Thank you for sharing these cool sustainable brands! It is really inspiring to see brands stepping up to do better for the environment. Also, that period care company sounds amazing! It's crazy how many toxins and chemicals are in most feminine care products.

  8. Hi there!

This is such really good content, specially since right now I am trying to move my fashion consumption into more durable and special clothes. It is not like I am saying goodbye to fast fashion but actually I'm not buying a lot of clothes these days, I prefer to buy less but with better quality.

I loved all the options, but the shoes by Lacess look great, very versatile pieces that seems to last for many seasons! If you can check Paloma Wool's project, it is from Spain and I totally love the idea behind this brand :)
