Things To Do In Osaka

There are many things do do in Osaka from shopping, amusement park, shopping, and trying different food. Like other cities in Japan, Osaka is quite easy to navigate and the tourist attractions are easy to find as they are grouped in district cluster. Osaka weather in general is sunny and has higher temperature compared to other cities like Kyoto or Kanazawa. In May when I went, the weather usually falls between 18-21 degrees (after spring and before summer.)

Osaka Universal Studios Japan

Osaka Universal Studios Japan is one of the most attractions and reasons why people come to visit the city. I write about Universal Studios Japan in details, so you might want to check it out. For me Universal Studios Japan is one of the most attractive amusement park for different ages. The rides are quite extra and interactive with Japan high technology features installed. Childresn has their own area where they can ride smaller rides with characters like Hello Kitty, Snoopy, and Sesame Street.

Dotonbori Osaka

This is where the famous Glico man is located. Dotonbori area is filled with rows of restaurants, snack stalls, and shops selling souvenirs and daily needs. It is divided by the Tombori river in the middle. There are many food to try in Osaka that can be found along the Dotonbori area. From takoyaki, okonomiyaki, curry, to sweets. You can also find the famous shop Don Don Denki here where you can buy stationery, snacks, and clothes in discounted prices. For you who are looking for cosmetics and skincare, you can drop by the Matsumoto Kiyoshi, a Japanese pharmacist.

Kuromon Market

Kuromon Ichiba Market is a traditional market in Osaka where you can find rows of stalls that sell fresh seafood, mouthwatering snacks, fruits, and also sweets. I have also wrote a post about Kuromon Market separately and what kind of food you can try while exploring the market. The market opens daily from 9am to 6 pm, but some shops closes on Sunday and Public Holidays. Conveniently located in Nippombashi area, you can reach it by taking the train and alight at Nippombashi Station.

Osaka Castle

For a brief history lesson and a more traditional approach of Japan, head to the Osaka Castle. The castle was built in 1583. The entire castle ground is approximately 61,000 square meters wide. You can learn more about the history inside the building. To reach it you can take the JR train and alight at the Osakajokoen Station. This place is known as a popular spot for "hanami" (cherry blossom viewing picnic) during spring.

Amerikamura

Amerikamura is known as shopping district in Shinsaibashi where a lot of local and international brands gathered. Think of Orchard Road in Singapore or the smaller version of 5th Avenue New York. Visitors can try on famous Japanese brands like Gu and Uniqlo or dive into the latest technology in the Apple store. The other lane of this area focuses on vintage and more indie local brands. There are also restaurants and cafes in this area so make sure to check them out along the way.

Umeda Area

Umeda area is located at the central of Osaka where Osaka Station is. There are connected buildings and malls like the Umeda Mall, Yodobashi Camera building, and offices. Another place you might want to visit is the Umeda Sky Building where you can have 360 degrees view of Osaka at the Kuchu Tsien Observatory. From 170 metres above the ground, you can enjoy the view of the city from the 39th and 40th floor for 1500 yen. The observatory opens from 11 am to 10 pm. You can buy the ticket online here.

Osaka Travel Tips

To have an easy navigation between these tourist attraction or areas, I would recommend you to have the Kyoto-Osaka Sightseeing Pass. It enables unlimited train ride along the Keihan Railway in Kyoto and Osaka. It's very convenient and you can choose to have a 1 day or 2 day pass. Have you ever visited Osaka? Any other interesting place you would like to add? Let me know in the comment section below.

  2. Hey dear, hope you're doing good!

Thanks for taking the time to read my latest blog post and thanks also for taking us into a virtual trip with you! I really miss traveling and Japan is on my bucket list for many years... hopefully in the upcoming years ?

I have heard a lot about Osaka, one of my best friends used to live there and she told me there are many interesting things to do! Specially for the fact that you can visit Universal Studios, I am a HP fan so it would be nice to go there and spending hours in the park!

Of course the most interesting part of my trip would be the stop of that food market, looks full of options for a sweet tooth like me!

And then the traditional options like the Castle and a walk around the busiest area of the city is great! I love that Osaka has varied activities to do!

Keep safe and hope we can travel soon again!
