Dragon Tea Temple Ubud | Tea Meditation

Tea meditation, the wisdom of the tea

I had the chance to do a tea meditation in this Dragon Tea Temple, Ubud, Bali. I intended to connect more with my ancestral root, then my intuition leads me to this space. Tea meditation is essentially savouring the art of drinking tea while meditating, observing, and contemplating for answers through the wisdom of the tree and tea. We were seated surrounding a table on a cushion. The interior is combination of Chinese and Japanese influence with zen atmosphere, wooden furnitures, a mini zen garden, and one wall filled with chinese words. During the tea meditation ceremony, the tea master will brew the tea of the day and let us savour and observe its leaves before and after brewing. Interesting enough, the tea that day comes from Arbor tree in China with a similar age as me.  The tea was medium brown in colour, has a bit of earthy smell yet tastes very light. Upon brewed and poured into individual tea bowls, we then hold the bowl in our palm, and continue to meditate. To my surprise, this experience brings one of the answer to my question that day.

I asked the question that day and was swirling the bowl in my hands. I see the sunlight reflects in the tea. The smell the 30 years old tea leaves, while listening to the birds chirping outside gave a sense of peace. I took each sip with care and gratitude. At times I put the bowl close to my heart to feel its warmth. The meditation went for 1.5 hours and we had 4 rounds of tea refilled in our bowl. Aside from meditation, they also hold various events like kirtan and musical night. Dragon Tea Temple also sell various tea variations and teawares from different countries. If you want to learn deeper about the art of tea, you can do so by joining their tea school.

My meditation experience

During my meditation, I asked who or what should I be. Yet the answer was "Just be yourself. You are enough. Only by embodying your true nature, you can be your best self. At the end of the day, it will give an example for other people to do so as well." It sounds pretty simple, yet it cut deep, profound, & I couldn't help but wonder. The road to healing is never linear. I once thought it was, but apparently, it is filled with ups and downs. Every day I learn and unlearn different things. Learning to elevate my frequency, learning new skills, understanding things from different point of views, yet at the same time unlearning thought patterns, behaviours, and all other things imprinted from different environments that actually no longer serves me.

It's not as easy as it sounds especially if it is a doctrine given since you were a kid. It's like demolishing a foundation of a house & rebuilding from scratch. As time goes by, I have understood myself better. Not exactly perfect, but I can differentiate what traits or behaviour I want to keep in myself and what doesn't because it is essentially not "me". On the other hand, You know when you're in a plane, you have to wear your oxygen mask first before helping others right? The same thing applies here. And I know if my purpose is to help other people, first I need to help myself. It is important to heal myself completely so I can embody my truest self essence.

Not very sure how long it's going to take but I am definitely putting the focus on myself, my soul purpose, and spiritual growth. Spiritual awakening does not only consist of rainbows and butterflies, more often than not it is doing a reroute & it's painful. I drifted quite far from my true purpose and the universe is telling me to make a 180 u-turn. I have made a pledge, so I'd better buckle up. Cause once you have decided, there's no turning back. It is quite a long winding road, but I only rely on my hope and light at the end of the tunnel. I used to crawl, but now I'm already taking a light sprint. And deep down I know with all my heart once I run & cross the finish line, I would be a totally different person. Wishing everyone in this journey will find their truest soul purpose as well.

  2. Hi! The association with meditation, relaxation, silence is very good, I also think that is how the most correct answers arrive. I like the answer you found to your question. :) A hug, Raquel

  5. Yes, healing is not linear at all, that's a hard one to take too.The ups and downs change day by day, we just have to keep moving forward slowly, one day could be with a heavy heart but the next may be with joy. This sounds like a very calm and uplifting experience xx
