There are also some fox statues too which are closely associated with the Inari god.Shrine Etiquette for Foreigners
General Etiquette in the shrine
You enter a shrine or temple by using the left or right side of the path, not the center one and use the main gate to enter, not the side door. Bow once before entering a shrine, then clean yourself before going to the main building. You can pray, do an omikuji, and viewing afterwards. Before going out, face the shrine and bow again.
Cleaning yourself before entering
Near the entrance of every temple in Japan, there is a water basin area used to clean yourself before entering the temple complex. Here's how to do it: Take the laddle, fill it with water and pour the water onto your left hand then your right hand. Take more water and pour onto your palm to rinse your mouth. Lastly, pour the water over the laddle handle then put it back.
Praying at the shrine
If you want to pray at the shrine, like Fushimi Inari Shrine, here are the steps: Put the 5 yen coin into the box then ring the bell by the handle. Bow twice, clap twice then say your prayer.
